Vacation Planning Tips for Active Seniors

by Royal Holiday September 25, 2015
    written by Royal Holiday

Active seniors, considered to be age 55 and over, have tons of resources and options to plan a unique and rewarding vacation. You might not have already been aware of some of these services for active seniors to travel. Once you know what options are available to you, you will be amazed at how many great services there are for travelers at Royal Holiday. As an active senior, you will want to plan several activities or excursions throughout your vacation. There are services and activities for every level, age, and lifestyle of baby boomers.

Are you the adventurous type? The possibilities are endless! First, you will want to find a service that provides a guide to travel with you. This takes all of the guess work out of where to go and best location for your activity. Your guide will know local landmarks to see and be familiar with how to be adventurous safely. You might consider, for example, a guided hiking adventure. You certainly want your hike to be worth the effort. The guide will know the best trails to take to accommodate your level of activity and can show you the best spots to take in the view.

If you are an adrenaline junkie, activities like zip lining or parasailing might interest you. Both of these activities allow you to take in the sites, in different ways, of your destination. Zip lining might make you think of gliding through a nature preserve or forest. However, zip lining has been redefined in tropical locations. For instance, in the Caribbean zip lining can be done off a cliff. This adventure will have you gliding over the Caribbean Sea.

    Tips for Singles

You don’t have to miss out on the sites just because you don’t have a travel partner. There are lots of active seniors who love to travel and can do so with other singles. In some situations, you can travel with single individuals exclusively. Better yet, you can enjoy a cruise and have a suite in the single adults section. This allows you to have the best of both worlds. In this case, you don’t have to be around just singles for your whole trip. You have peace of mind, however, that when you want peace and quiet you can return to your suite without kids running in the hallways.

Similar to guided adventures, you can also find meet up groups for single travelers. Maybe you would like to do a museum tour day, but would prefer to be with a group. Tour companies most often have special groups that you can sign up to participate in group tours for single travelers. This is a great way to meet new people and have a fun day. When the day is done, you can depart from the group and continue on with your trip. This might be a good option for those who want to be mostly independent on their vacation but might want a day or two to mingle with some new individuals.

    Traveling With Groups

walking-711161_640Group touring is a great option for active seniors, single seniors, and couples alike. For any of these groups that want a no-fuss vacation, group tours around the city of your choice worth the investment. You don’t have to look at maps or worry about how much time to spend at each stop. Your tour guide will do all of this work for you. This leaves you with the time to enjoy the sites and landmarks stress-free. Most travelers would agree that spending some of your vacation money on these types amenities are worth it. After all, the main goal of your vacation is to have fun, enjoy the city, and relax.

    Save a little

Since you want to have an active vacation, vacationers might want to consider a few tips to save a few bucks along the way. Each of those activities will cost you, and you don’t want to miss out on something because your vacation budget is gone. One way that lots of Royal Holiday travelers save during their vacation is to travel during the shoulder seasons. The months of the year considered to be a part of the shoulder season are April through the first part of June, September, and October. By traveling during these months, you will be able to enjoy savings on airfare and hotels. The costs are down during these months because you are traveling outside of the peak months for tourists in your destination. Remember that the weather might be less then desirable at your destination during these shoulder months. This is usually one of the main reasons why tourism is down in shoulder months. However, this may be due to misconceptions about that location’s weather during off peak months. For instance, London is very enjoyable in the fall months when tourism tends to be down. There are more locations like this where the weather is still beautiful despite what travelers conceptions might be about the weather.
