Amazing (but unknown) places to vacation in 2016

by Royal Holiday January 18, 2016
    written by Royal Holiday

When planning our vacations we usually start to explore our options and most jump at the chance of visiting popular islands, busy metropolitan cities or jam-packed amusement parks. The world offers so many alternatives, but almost by instinct we usually stick to what we see in commercials. Why not live a little this year and explore some not-so-common vacation destinations that will blow your mind?

The Lycian Tombs – Lycia, Turkey

Building monumental tombs in Anatolia was tradition, but the Lycians stood out with their impeccable craftsmanship. They, to this day, have more than 1800 intact examples of their rock-carved tombs. Not only the design sets them apart from other cultures that dedicated great detail and importance to ancestor worship and their tombs. The Lycian tombs are built right into the city, where in most cases they are built in the outskirts. Visiting this unique architectural and artistic destination will definitely take your breath away.

The Hanging Bridges – Crimean Mountains, Ukraine

For those adventurous at heart you can visit the peak of the Crimean Mountain in Ukraine. Ai-Petri, or as it’s translated St. Peter, is one of the windiest places in Crimea. A one-way cable car takes passengers from the city of Alupka to the main area of Ai-Petri.

    The Wahuang Palace – China

Famous due to Chinese folklore, the Wahuang Palace is where it is said the ancient Goddess NüWa created human beings. This is the earliest and largest ancient building in China to worship the Goddess NüWa. It was constructed in the 6th century, but has since then expanded until covering 760,000 square meters. Definitely a place worth travelling to to discover ancient Chinese folklore and experience the amazing landscape from the mountainside.

    Grotta Palazzese – Southern Italy

This breathtaking restaurant is built into a cave in Southern Italy. It was built centuries ago 74 feet above sea level and makes for an unforgettable dining experience.

It’s said that this was the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Cinderella castle. It is an antique castle dating back to 1120 that rises out of a rugged cliff. It is thought to have been used as a Roman fort at one time, but today very little evidence of it remains, since it was mainly used later on by Spanish Monarchs. Today it is a museum and military archives building.
