TAKE CARE OF THE SEA ‘CAUSE THERE’S NO PLAN B

by Royal Holiday September 4, 2020
    written by Royal Holiday

The worldwide Covid-19 outbreak has led to governments to implement extreme measures to control the spread of the virus. While we know that the consequences of the virus for human life have been dire, it has had a positive impact for the environment.

We’ve witnessed an unprecedented drop in CO2 emissions, reduced pollution on beaches, in forests, in cities, and in the sea. It’s a call for people to take care of the sea whenever we travel, as the sea represents 71% of the total area and 96% of the water on the planet. It’s also home to millions of species of plant and animal life and in their interest, we need to continue caring for it.

Today, in the aftermath of the corona virus, and the many interventions made in the public interest, paradoxically, there’s hope again the environment and the planet. All along, it required strong measures and resources from the state.

Let’s Take Care of the Sea

    Sea animals

Photos have come in from all over the world of sea pollution declining. This has allowed the waters in some places to regain their natural hue. Animals have reappeared in those same waters, among them dolphins, whales, sea lions, and there are more birds than ever.

Maintaining the oceans is at last paramount. Taking measures that are easy to execute is more important than ever. If everyone joins, we can start to keep the water clean for generations to come.

That’s why keeping the seas clean for ourselves – and for aquatic life – depends on implementing these 10 steps for taking care of the oceans:

    1. Reduce your carbon footprint and reduce your energy consumption to decrease the effects of climate change on the oceans.
    2. Make sustainable decisions about seafood you consume, to help protect species from over-exploitation.
    3. Reduce your reliance on the plastics that destroy marine habitats.
    4. Take care of the beaches you visit and don’t interfere with wildlife or remove rocks or corals.
    5. Don’t buy products that exploits marine life.
    6. Don’t dispose of pet waste (or anything else) in the ocean.
    7. Support the groups working to protect the oceans
    8. Encourage change in your community and express your concerns when you see threatened species on restaurant menus.
    9. Travel responsibly whenever you’re crossing an ocean.
    10. Educate yourself on ocean and marine life.

In addition to these ten tips, Royal Holiday invites you to apply these other tips, so that together we can better care for the sea.

    • Put any hygienic products in the trash, never in the W.C., as these can end up at sea.
    • Consume responsibly.
    • Apply the 3 R rule: “reduce, re-use, recycle.”
    • Enjoy all nature responsibly.
    • When you cruise or sail, don’t throw anything into the water.
    • Educate all children and young people about respect for nature.
