    Great Travel Snacks

by Royal Holiday April 24, 2014
    written by Royal Holiday

Good travel snacks can make the process of getting from one place to another a whole lot more enjoyable. Whether you’re taking a family road trip or getting on a plane for twelve hours, bringing the right food to satisfy cravings and keep your energy up will make your trip better. If you’re looking for a good snack for your next journey, try one of the following.

    – Nuts instead of chips. Potato chips may be tempting, but nuts are a much better alternative if you’re after a bit of crunch. Peanuts, almonds, walnuts, and other nuts offer a healthy combination of protein and good fats, as long as you don’t overdo it.

    – Whole-grain muffins. Muffins give you a chance to customize your snack however you want; a quick Internet search will reveal muffin recipes for every flavor under the sun, from blueberry to banana nut and beyond. Just about any quick bread made without yeast can be baked in muffin cups for an easy-traveling snack.

    – Frozen peas. Peas make a great vegetable snack, and if you bring them frozen, you can use them to keep other perishable foods cool while you travel.

    – Granola bars. Bars of granola are easy to find in the grocery store, and if you grab a low-sugar, high-fiber variety, they’re healthy as well. They travel more easily than regular granola and may make a particularly attractive choice for kids.

    – Nut butters. Peanut butter makes a great travel snack, but you don’t need to stop there. To mix things up, try almond butter or another flavor.

    – String cheese. Another kid-friendly option, string cheese provides calcium and can be combined with other foods like ham or marinara sauce for a tasty snacking experience.

    – Yogurt. Yogurt contains a wide range of beneficial nutrients, from vitamin D and calcium to probiotics that aid digestion. In addition, yogurt comes in several travel-friendly packaging options. Try mixing it with granola and fruit, or blending it into a smoothie as well.
