Mexico Still the Most Popular for Royal Holiday Travelers

by Royal Holiday

Locations in Mexico are always – always – the hands down favorite of Royal Holiday members. Whether they’re looking for a quick break, taking a long annual trip to somewhere new, or coming back for the umpteenth time – Mexico is where more of them will do it.

Mexico offers affordable, attractive and invigorating vacations. Despite years of bad press, Royal Holiday travelers live it up in Cancun, Los Cabos and everywhere in between.

Please keep the following in mind if you’re considering a vacation in Mexico this year:

  1. Tourist areas in Mexico are, nearly without exception, safer than similar destinations in the US or Canada.
  2. Crime rates are very similar to those you’ll find in the rural United States. The state of Yucatan had homicide rate of 1.8 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2013. That’s less than even the most peaceful state in the United States.
  3. Sensationalist news organizations frequently play-up violence in some areas, while downplaying very similar stories happening closer to home. US cities like New Orleans, Philadelphia and Washington DC have far higher rates of crime than any of the cities you are likely to visit with Royal Holiday.
  4. Just like in the US in the past year, Mexico has seen dramatic drops in nearly all kinds of crime, and particularly in coastal tourist cities.
  5. The Royal Holiday destinations in Mexico are by and large in states which are totally green-lighted by both the US State Department [ http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/alertswarnings/mexico-travel-warning.html ] and the Government of Canada. Two important exceptions are these:
  6. The Mexican state of Guerrero is home to both Acapulco and Ixtapa where travel or tourism in the city centers is perfectly safe. Likewise, in Veracruz, travel within the city has no official safety advisories and is perfectly safe.
  7. Outside of Mexico City, and similar business centers, most airports in Mexico are almost exclusively for the use of travelers and vacationers. This makes them some of the safest airports in the world.
  8. No tourist areas in Mexico – and no tourists – are the targets of organized crime.
  9. Royal Holiday locations are selected based on the safety of each location. If they’re not All-Inclusive resorts, then they are still relatively self-contained, meaning you shouldn’t have to travel far for much of anything.
  10. Lastly, Royal Holiday, and affiliated hotels, always work closely with local law enforcement. This is not only to collect reports of incidents of crime or concern, but to ensure the safety of members and all of their guests.

Member Services is always happy to address any of your concerns. Whether you’re just in the planning stages, or you’ve heard about public safety issues and already booked, your representatives are knowledgeable about the issues facing travelers.
