Paris offers unending attractions, from the best- to the least-known. Read on for the city’s “must sees” with your best half.

The Eiffel Tower

Gustavo Eiffel dedicated two years of his life to build this monument for the World Exhibition of 1889. The tower was not as appreciated then as it is today, but now it is the undisputed symbol of Paris. Be sure to visit at night when it is illuminated by thousands of bulbs, 20,000 of which add a special sparkling effect for 5 minutes every hour on the hour until 1 am. This is a must see.

Sail the River Seine

Nothing can compare to admiring Paris with a silent sail on the River Seine. This highly popular attraction lasts between 2 to 4 hours and may be, according to your choice, accompanied by a gourmet meal or a glass of champagne as you pass beneath Paris’ many bridges. The “Bateau Bus,” which operates continuously from 10 am to 9:30 pm makes stops every 20 minutes. Boarding points are at the city’s main attractions including the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and more. Of course at night it is even more romantic and as a couple you can enjoy an intimate dinner while admiring the splendid illuminated Parisian cityscape.

Royal Palace Gardens

This a perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the green areas and shops tucked away behind this formidable 17th century palace. As the name implies, it was once a royal residence and now houses antique shops, with exquisite perfumes and haute-couture designers. For a splendid evening we recommend eating at the Grand Véfour restaurant and then leisurely strolling in the garden of the Tuileries.

Love of culture: The Museum d’Orsay and The Louvre

These two world renowned museums deserve visits but on separate days. The Museum d’Orsay was once the top level of a train station and now houses the world’s largest collection of Impressionist art. Here you’ll encounter masterpieces by Cezanne, Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Degas and Gaugin, among others.

The Louvre needs no introduction, as it is a spectacular museum in both dimension (675,000 square feet) and works. It is the most visited art museum in the world and houses the Gioconda or Mona Lisa, probably the most famous painting in the world.

Notre-Dame

Another symbol of Paris, this cathedral is considered the city’s heart and for many is the very heart of France, as well. This cathedral, besides its Gothic architectural beauty, is where Napoleón was coronated as well as being the place where France’s kings and queens were married. Its construction began in 1163.

The Elysium or Elysian Fields

“Los Campos Eliseos,” Paris’s most famous avenue extends from the obelisk of the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe and is a shopping mecca. Its wide pedestrian crossings are marked by the city’s most exclusive stores like Louis Vuitton and Hugo Boss, including more modern brands like Adidas and Gap. You don’t have to make a purchase. A walk and a bit of window shopping on the Champs Elysees is an endearing experience all by itself.
