You will not be surprised to learn that Paris boasts over 70 Michelin starred restaurants, making it one of most foodie-friendly capitals in the world.
A star is born!
In 1900 the tire manufacturer André Michelin published the first edition of a guide for French motorists. At first, it was given away free of charge, and contained useful information like maps, instructions for repairing and changing tires, lists of car mechanics, hotels and petrol stations.
Several changes were made to the guide, such as listing restaurants by specific categories, and the debut of hotel listings (initially only for Paris). The guide restaurant section became so popular, the Michelin brothers recruited a team of anonymous inspectors to visit, review restaurants and award stars to the finest. In 1936 the starred-rankings were published.
