Cancun is an incredible destination that has it all: wonderful beaches, overflowing nature, water, and cultural activities, incomparable nightlife, fabulous shopping, and unique gastronomic experiences.
Maybe because it’s such a complete destination, throughout the entire year there are many international events and festivals that gather multitudes and that have already become a classic for lovers of various cultural expressions. One of them is the International Music Festival, which will take place this year from October 3rd to 12th, celebrating its 11th anniversary. This year’s theme is ‘Sounds of the Andes,’ dedicated to the culture and artistic expressions of the Andes. Are you up for it?
A BIT OF HISTORY
The International Music Festival Cancún was born in 2013, initiated by a Mexican production company and a musician from the Canary Islands, to create a space where quality, passion, and social responsibility come together.
Its founders have worked with the conviction that music makes the world a better place and that it always has a positive effect on human beings. Curiously, it was the baroque music that impulsed this initiative, and then more genres were added.
The festival has been growing in space, artists, and genres. Nowadays, there are more than 100 artists from different countries interpreting baroque, classical, jazz, and pop music on Cancún’s scenarios and other locations in Quintana Roo.
THE PROGRAMS
The programs of the International Music Festival are fabulous, and if you’re a musician or if you love music you have the chance of choosing between the Stage Program, the Academic Program, and the Social Program.
The Stage Program is distinguished by being eclectic and varied. Its music programming is outstanding, featuring wind instruments and encompassing all possible genres.
The Academic Program is highly engaging, offering opportunities to participate in conferences, panel discussions, masterclasses, and educational concerts sponsored by internationally renowned institutions with prominent speakers.
The Social Program is the one that seeks to take music literally everywhere. There will be incredible concerts in vulnerable zones for a public that generally doesn’t have access to these events.
Finally, Didactic Concerts have the objective of generating interest in music for the youngest, exploring all possible genres and instruments through fun and inclusive dynamics.
Towards the end of the festival, there’s a trumpet contest, which is a classic in this festival.
